Redmi Note 13 4G

In conclusion, while carrying a less powerful chipset, the Note 13 4G is capable of delivering an enjoyable user experience.

Positives
  • Good camera
  • Long battery life
  • Surprisingly good display
  • Great audio experience
Negatives
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 can only drive low setting on Genshin Impact

The Redmi Note 13 4G, part of the Redmi Note 13 series, distinguishes itself as the more budget-friendly option within the lineup. Despite its affordability, it boasts a whooping 100 MP camera that impress us to do a separated article.

However, despite the powerful imaging capability, it is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 685. Being the least powerful Snapdragon SOC among the Note 13 series, our question is can it handle Genshin impact? And What is the experience like?

Overview

Encased in a metallic ring, the Redmi Note 13 4G features a glossy finish on its back and a stunning 6.67” AMOLED display on the front. The device’s overall slim and lightweight design may be comfortable for many users, though some may find it slightly large for their hands. Vertically holding the phone, whether bare or with a cover, feels appropriate for an adult male’s hand. The bundled cover, particularly essential during gaming to prevent slippage due to the glossy finish, adds a needed fullness for a secure grip.

Apart from the standard buttons and Xiaomi’s trademark IR blaster, users are welcomed by stereo speakers, a crucial feature for optimal show bingeing and spatial sound experience in gaming.

However, the speakers are positioned diagonally, presenting a challenge as there is no ideal way to hold the phone without obstructing one of the speaker outlets, potentially impacting the spatial sound experience.

120Hz AMOLED Display

For an entry-range smartphone, I wasn’t expecting to find an AMOLED screen, let alone with 120Hz and 100% DCI-P3 coverage. The display gives off vibrant, full, and punchy colors. The saturated color is beautiful to look at while remaining comfortable due to the display being tuned on a hardware level to be gentle to the eye.

We have to emphasize how good it feels to have the 120Hz option for Note 13 4G; it takes the experience up a notch. This not only makes navigation on the phone feel smoother and more natural, but it also makes the gaming experience on the Note 13 a lot more responsive and enjoyable.

Dolby Atmos Audio

The Redmi Note 13 4G has a great base for an audio setup, featuring stereo speakers on top and below, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and speaker-level Dolby Atmos. While Xiaomi only mentions the speakers as dual speakers, we can verify that it is stereo. The speaker-level Dolby Atmos gives the audio more life and better layering in audio. Overall, the speaker produces decent sound quality, with Dolby Atmos enabled, it’s well-layered with good treble and mid, just like many smartphones, lacking bass.

We mentioned earlier how the speakers were placed diagonally, which impaired its audio quality when holding the phone horizontally for gaming. This can be overcome by using wireless earbuds, and the good news is that Dolby Atmos works wirelessly too.

100MP Camera

We wrote a saparate articles about the Redmi Note 13 4G’s camera, do check out how well perform the camera here. Long story short, the cameras on the phone is a piece of work, hitting above its weight class.

Redmi Note 13 4G performance

Okay, here’s the part where we discuss the phone’s gaming performance. We got the higher-end model of Redmi Note 13 with 8GB RAM + 256GB storage, and the performance would be better than the base model.

We ran a simple test to see how much performance we could squeeze out from the Note 13.

SettingMax FPS
Low (Default)29 fps
Low 60 frame rate31 fps
Low 60 frame rate No AA No bloom Low Crowd Density48 fps

With low settings profile, no AA, no bloom, and low crowd density, we managed to get a maximum frame rate of 48fps from the Note 13 4G. We understand this is not the best performance out there, but it is decent enough to still provide an enjoyable gaming experience. With a 48fps frame rate, the game is smooth, and the visual effects won’t be too choppy. But the environment and character models do look underwhelming, yet Genshin Impact’s nature of being a story-rich game is still very enjoyable.

While we are excited to try HyperOS for the Note 13 4G, the official release date is set in the first quarter of 2024. However, scouring the net, we couldn’t find any form of release, even in Beta, as its sister model already has a beta release available.

Redmi Note 13 4G Battery Life & Charging

With a 5000mAh battery capacity, the Note 13 4G shares a similar battery capacity with its other sibling. The official stats suggest 20 hours of video playback, 174 hours of music playback, 12 hours of navigation, and a ridiculous standby time of 13 days. Based on our test, we left the phone in our lab for Chinese New Year for a good week, only to come back with the phone still alive and at 40+% battery life.

However, while Xiaomi advertised the phone to recharge in 70 minutes, our test shows about 74 minutes. So, Xiaomi is good for its word. Finally, on Genshin Impact with 120Hz on, full brightness, and settings set at low (Default), spending 20 minutes would drain only 5% of battery life. Based on that observation, users would be able to game up to 6 hours and 40 minutes non-stop!

Redmi Note 13 4G Conclusion

In conclusion, while carrying a less powerful chipset, the Note 13 4G is capable of delivering an enjoyable user experience. Its powerful camera and beautiful screen make this a media-binging powerhouse, not to mention its speaker-level Dolby Atmos with rich sound quality. The battery and its duration are also something to look forward to for the Note 13 4G.

All these points generally make an enjoyable, long, and great audio experience session of Genshin Impact. However, its SoC is the one glaring limitation of this device. Capable only of delivering smooth experiences at lower settings, users would miss out on the best eye game mobile gaming can offer.
