The AMD Ryzen 7000 series desktop processors are now official in Malaysia. Prices start from RM1,399 for the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, which is actually a very reasonable starting price given the sorry state our currency is in right now. In any case, the entire Ryzen 7000 series product stack is now available in Malaysia for enthusiasts and gamers to upgrade to.

AMD Ryzen 7000 series: what’s new

AMD Ryzen 7000 series IPC perf

The new Ryzen 7000 series brings with it a significant 13% integers per clock (IPC) uplift with the latest Zen 4 cores. The improvement in IPC is further complemented by much higher boost clocks of up to 5.7GHz, allowing for up to 29% gains in single-core performance. And that’s not all, AMD also bumped up the TDP rating, allowing for greater boost clocks in multi-core workloads.

Aside from the new cores, AMD Ryzen 7000 also heralds the new AMD AM5 socket. AMD is finally moving to a LGA socket, solving the “CPU bent pin” issue. Goodbye bent pins on the CPU, hello bent pins on the motherboard. But I digress. The new platform will bring with it support for the latest interfaces as well: DDR5 and PCIe 5.0.

Unlike Intel’s first go at DDR5, the AMD Ryzen 7000 will not support DDR4. As such, the entry cost of the AMD Ryzen 7000 series will be slightly higher than that of the Intel platforms. In any case, AMD is definitely learning from their mistakes with the Ryzen 1000 series, and will work closely with memory vendors and board partners to enable better compatibility for DDR5. AMD will even be unveiling AMD EXPO, or Extended Profiles for Overclocking. Essentially AMD’s version of Intel’s XMP.

Last but not least, all AMD Ryzen 7000 series processors will feature a tiny integrated graphics. Featuring just 2 Compute Units, you won’t be gaming on this. Instead, AMD plans on creators taking advantage of this to accelerate media encode and decode workloads. For enthusiasts, it will provide for a good way to troubleshoot their systems.
