Demand outpacing the Ultra

Within moments of pre-orders going live, Samsung’s online channels were hit with what the company describes as an unprecedented surge in traffic, as thousands of customers attempted to check out at the same time. The user response was so strong that eager buyers rushed to secure their devices before the first allocation sold through.

The bigger story, Samsung says, is where the demand is converging. The Galaxy Z Fold8 — not the Ultra — has become the model consumers are gravitating toward. Buyers cite the refreshed form factor, a more refined design and an all-new user experience as the reasons for the shift. For many, the new Galaxy Z Fold8 represents the next evolution of foldable smartphones, delivering a fresh take on productivity, entertainment and everyday use.

Launch day risk and the priority queue

With early allocations already moving quickly, customers who wait until launch day to walk into a store may find themselves disappointed. Pre-orders are continuing to pour in, and stock is expected to be snapped up within the first wave. Depending on demand, late buyers could be waiting weeks for the next shipment.

The way to secure a slot is to pre-order. Customers who place a pre-order automatically join the priority fulfilment list, ensuring they are among the first to receive their Galaxy Z Fold8 as soon as new stock arrives. Waiting until after launch may mean missing the initial wave entirely, especially as demand continues to outpace supply. The pre-order window runs from 22 July to 13 August 2026, with devices shipping as early as 11 August 2026, subject to stock availability.

Pre-order rewards and Malaysia pricing

Customers who pre-order between 22 July and 13 August 2026 can stack a suite of exclusive launch rewards worth up to RM1,950. The bundle includes an exclusive rebate of up to RM800, an instant bank rebate of RM500 when paying with selected bank cards, a Samsung Reward Points Booster worth up to RM400 for Samsung Members, and a RM250 Samsung Reservation+ Voucher. Eligible customers buying any new Galaxy Z Series device can also pick up selected Samsung Galaxy accessories at up to 30% off, with a 0% interest instalment plan of up to 36 months at participating banks rounding out the package.

The Malaysia line-up pricing is as follows: Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra starts at RM8,099 for the 256GB variant and tops out at RM10,499 for the 1TB version, available in Graphite, Cream, Violet Shadow, and Green Shadow (Online Exclusive). Galaxy Z Fold8 starts at RM7,299 for the 256GB variant and reaches RM9,699 for the 1TB model, in Graphite, Cream, Lavender, and Pistachio (Online Exclusive). Galaxy Z Flip8 starts at RM5,399 for the 256GB model and goes up to RM6,199 for the 512GB variant, in Graphite, Cream, Pink, and Mint (Online Exclusive).

Our Take

Samsung’s framing of the Z Fold8 outpacing the Z Fold8 Ultra is an interesting signal. In earlier cycles, the Ultra was the halo product that pulled consumers into the foldable category, but the regular Z Fold8 now looks to be the volume driver. That suggests the refinements to the base model — refreshed form factor, refined design and new UX — are landing with buyers who previously had to justify the Ultra premium. The volume migration is the real story behind the “flying off the shelves” line.

For Malaysians, the practical message is clear: if you want the new Galaxy Z Fold8 in the first wave, the pre-order window is the safer path. The promotion stack is generous — RM1,950 worth of rebates, points and vouchers against devices that start at RM7,299 — but only if you commit before 13 August 2026. The RM500 bank rebate is the headline piece for anyone paying with a participating card, and the RM800 exclusive rebate is the closest thing to a straight discount in the bundle.
