At the prestigious MWC Barcelona 2024, Huawei proudly accepted the GSMA Global Mobile (GLOMO) award for ‘Best Mobile Network Infrastructure,’ specifically acknowledging their groundbreaking green antenna series. This accolade underlines Huawei’s strides in enhancing the efficiency, performance, and integration of base station antennas. The green antennas, including Eco Antenna, Hertz Antenna, BladeAAU antennas, and X2 Antenna, have reshaped 5G construction, simplifying processes, maximizing energy efficiency, and bolstering connection performance for global operators.

Efficiency and Innovation Recognized

The green antenna series, featuring technological and process innovations, has proven instrumental in reducing network energy consumption and deployment costs. Huawei’s proprietary SDIF and Meta Lens technologies contribute to a more than 25% improvement in antenna efficiency by reducing energy losses and enhancing network performance. Additionally, the FreSIP and folding array technologies increase the integration of antenna modules, minimizing the need for network equipment on towers. The revolutionary laser welding manufacturing technology further adds to environmental sustainability by eliminating water consumption and air pollution during antenna manufacturing.

Global Impact and Cost Efficiency

Currently deployed in over 75 countries, Huawei’s green antennas are celebrated as a preferred choice for environmentally conscious and efficient network construction. These antennas, requiring lower transmit power than traditional ones, exhibit significant energy savings during busy hours. Live network tests reveal a 26% reduction in base station energy consumption without compromising performance, translating to potential savings of 900 USD per site annually. The impact extends to reduced carbon emissions, supporting sustainable development with up to 90,000 tons of CO2 emissions saved globally. The compact design of green antennas allows for doubled configurations within the same size, eliminating the need for extra antennas in deploying new frequency bands. In multi-operator sharing scenarios, the number of antennas required is halved, accelerating network deployment at lower costs.

Acknowledgment and Future Vision

Sun Youwei, President of Huawei Antenna Business Unit, expressed gratitude for the significant award, stating, “Higher spectrum and energy utilization are crucial for all operators looking to provide an optimal experience. By improving antenna energy efficiency and device integration, Huawei green antennas can enhance energy savings, network coverage, and user experience. Huawei is commit to collaborating with industry partners to apply green antennas across various frequency bands and application scenarios.”
