Cooler Master celebrated their 30th anniversary of being cool last year, so they released a whole lineup of 30th Anniversary Edition products, ranging from PC cases to mice. So here we have the Cooler Master MP511 XL 30th Anniversary Edition, which slaps on some 30th anniversary graphics on it, for better or worse.
Cooler Master MP511 30th Anniversary Edition — What’s Good?
Durable splash-resistant Cordura Fabric
There are far fewer buzzwords in the mousepad scene, but one of the big ones is Cordura Fabric. It’s a durable synthetic, splash-proof fabric that can come in various textures, which makes it quite the ideal match for mousepads. The Cooler Master MP511 30th Anniversary Edition strikes a nice balance here. It’s more textured than my cheap mousepad from Taobao, but it’s not one of those grippy “control” mousepads. It’s very hard to explain it but the mousepad makes me feel my mouse movement more. And of course, being splash-resistant means you can easily wipe off just about any stain with a damp towel, making eating at your computer desk a much safer experience.
Grippy base with stitched edges
Stitched edges in mousepads are something that many might take for granted nowadays, but it was quite a special feature back in the day. Essentially, the Cooler Master MP511 30th Anniversary Edition won’t face the common issue of having the top surface lift off from the rubber base, which will be the end of its usable lifespan. It also helps that it has a really grippy rubber base. I still found it to be very planted, unlike my cheaper mousepad that often slips out of position especially if I move my keyboard around on the mousepad.

Yes, I understand most of the people in the world are righties, but the Cooler Master MP511 30th Anniversary Edition is probably the first right-handed mousepad I have ever encountered. From the top-left corner, approximately a third of the mousepad is not usable due to Cooler Master using heat transfer graphics. It delivers a very inconsistent mousing experience. Luckily, the large 30th Anniversary emblem on the lower-right corner is far enough that it doesn’t affect the experience. I wish Cooler Master had dyed the Cordura Fabric itself, so that it doesn’t affect the overall texture. For us right-handed fellas, I quite like the unique look of this mousepad, but yeah, southpaws need not apply.
Cooler Master MP511 30th Anniversary Edition — should you buy this?
Yes, if you’re exclusively a right-handed gamer. It’s an excellent Cordura-based mousepad for just RM109. If you’re trying to explore ambidexterity, well, get the normal Cooler Master MP511 XL instead. The Cooler Master MP511 30th Anniversary Edition is unique looking, and I think it’s a great addition to a Cooler Master fan’s desk. I mean, just check out all the awesome mentions of the products that defined Cooler Master to our generation of gamers: Hyper 212, HAF, Cosmos, Sickleflow. Fan service, maybe, but it’s still cool to me.
