The ASUS ExpertBook series needs no further introduction here at HelloExpress. In a bid to expand their target demographic, they released the new ASUS ExpertBook P-series at Computex 2024. This new ASUS ExpertBook P-series is intended for smaller businesses, while the long-running B-series is meant for larger-scale businesses. With that out of the way, let’s check out the ASUS ExpertBook P5 (P5405C), the current flagship of the ASUS ExpertBook P-series.
ASUS ExpertBook P5 (P5405C) — What’s Good
Minimalist aesthetics

Unlike the more premium design aspirations of the ASUS Zenbook S 14, the ASUS ExpertBook P5 features a more minimalistic design. Clean lines everywhere without any unnecessary curves and edges, with the only thing breaking the monotony of the Misty Grey aluminum lid here is the ASUS ExpertBook badging. The blue hued chassis does tie back to the ExpertBook series’ darker blue finishes, but as it’s not as “corporate”, you get it in a lighter shade. As in, corporate lite. Get it?
Enterprise-grade security

Speaking of being fit for a corporate life, the ExpertBook P5 features not just the IR facial recognition system that’s standard across most of ASUS’ recent offerings, but also a fingerprint scanner. I really like that ASUS also decided to dress up the button with a fingerprint icon and a nice power indicator at the top edge. On top of that, there’s also a free 3-year McAfee+ Premium membership, NIST SP 800-155 compliant BIOS, Windows 11 Secured-core PC technologies and a TCG Opal-compliant SSD. The ExpertBook P5 is really armed to the teeth to keep your data private.
AI ExpertMeet is a cool differentiator

Aside from the security measures, we have always asked for something more to differentiate ASUS ExpertBook laptops from the other ASUS laptops. Well ladies and gentlemen, we finally have it. The ASUS AI ExpertMeet suite is exclusive to the ASUS ExpertBook P-series (for now), and it offers quite a number of cool features including auto-translate, watermark and AI-powered meeting minutes. ASUS has mentioned that these features harness the power of the Intel AI Boost NPU in the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V, although it can also rely on CPU and GPU acceleration in devices without an NPU.

ASUS also made it more accessible by adding it the ExpertPanel, which pops up from the taskbar. Shortcuts to useful features like the AI noise cancellation feature are here too. More befuddling is the fact that ASUS packed a System Boost feature here. We’ve seen this on gaming laptops, but for a business laptop, this is a first. Well, perhaps ASUS thinks one might need all the horsepower you have to get through a meeting. I understand that feeling all too well. But I digress.
Excellent port layout

Perfect for business users, you get more ports with the ASUS ExpertBook P5. Two USB-A ports capable of 10Gbps speeds, two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a full-sized HDMI 2.1 port provide plenty of connectivity. It’s quite interesting that ASUS changed up the arrangement of the ports on the left here, where the HDMI and USB-A ports are put between the two Thunderbolt 4 ports. An advantage of this is that when you’re using the ExpertBook P5 plugged in, you can plug in wider USB-C dongles. Usually on ASUS’ other offerings, they’re side-by-side, which hinders this. This is definitely an edge case, but kudos to ASUS for thinking about it.
Good efficiency, with AI

While the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V enables various AI features with its capable NPU, making the ASUS ExpertBook P5 a Copilot+ PC. But aside from its AI chops, this processor also delivers excellent performance and long battery life, as you can see in the benchmarks above. The ASUS Zenbook S 14 has it beat in terms of runtime away from the plug in PCMark, but the Zenbook also touts a larger battery. Overall, this is a powerful business laptop, and you can even take some time to kick back with some games to take advantage of the 144Hz display.

ASUS ExpertBook P5 (P5405C) — should you buy this?

As a business laptop, the ASUS ExpertBook P5 ticks just about every box. Upgradeability, enterprise-grade security, excellent battery life and great performance. It even one-ups its Zenbook cousin by offering unique AI features tailored towards meetings. The only thing that I might find to be a slight drawback would be its asking price of RM6,859. But that’s not to say that it doesn’t offer great value. As with all ASUS ExpertBooks, the ExpertBook P5 comes with a 3-year global warranty with local on-site coverage, 3 years of battery warranty, and 1st-year Perfect Warranty. If peace of mind is important to you, then the ASUS ExpertBook P5 should be right at the top of your shortlist of Lunar Lake-powered laptops.
