Here are the AMD AM5 Motherboards and Their Prices in Malaysia
With the new AMD Ryzen 7000 series, you are going to need a new AMD AM5 motherboard. While AMD retained compatibility for AM4 from Ryzen 1000 all through Ryzen 5000, Ryzen 7000’s new PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 capabilities, as well as raised power demands, require a new platform to work with. And so, which AMD AM5 motherboard should you go for? Here we try to help you pick the best board by listing out as many as we can that we know are in Malaysia, along with their prices.
[UPDATED 12/10/22 with X670 vs B650 info and GIGABYTE B650 motherboards]
The main difference between the E and non-E variants are whether the first PCIe slot for graphics is PCIe 4.0 or PCIe 5.0-capable. Since even the GeForce RTX 40 series are relying on a PCIe 4.0 interface, it’s somewhat moot to get the X670E or B650E boards, unless you foresee a specific need for the higher bandwidth standard in the near future.
Meanwhile the difference between AMD X670 and B650 boils down to the connectivity available from the chipset. X670 essentially offers double the amount of PCIe lanes and USB ports supported, which is something that you might want to consider if you are planning on building a massive storage array with your AMD AM5 build, which doesn’t make a lot of sense… But you do you.
GIGABYTE X670/X670E – from RM1,449
GIGABYTE is coming in strong with a quartet of AMD AM5 offerings, ranging from as low as RM1,449 to as high as RM3,499. Harnessing their experience at designing high performance motherboards, the new GIGABYTE X670 and X670E AORUS motherboards are designed with up to 18+2+2 direct digital power phases and efficient Fins-Array III heatsinks to ensure excellent power delivery.
On top of that, even the most affordable GIGABYTE X670 GAMING X AX will also come with SMD DIMM slots that support up to DDR5-6400 memory. Essentially SMD DIMMs are supposed to offer better signal integrity, which in turn translates to better stability when you are pushing the limits of memory overclocking. It is however more expensive, so it’s quite nice to see GIGABYTE offer that even in the relatively affordable X670 GAMING X AX.
Taking pages out of their competitors, all the GIGABYTE X670 and X670E boards also feature EZ-Latch and EZ-Latch Plus mechanisms. to facilitate screwless and quick-release graphics cards and M.2 SSDs. If you have ever lost a M.2 screw, you will definitely understand how much this is appreciated. 2.5GbE and WiFi 6E round off the connectivity features, while the new GIGABYTE Control Center replaces the ageing APP Center software for customization.

ASUS X670/X670E – from RM1,559
ASUS Malaysia has brought in a full array of AMD X670 and X670E motherboards, with a variety of form factors ranging from ITX all the way up to EATX. This year they are bringing the exclusive Dynamic OC Switcher that debuted on the ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero to all their X670E offerings. This allows for better tuned performance for higher single-core and multi-core performance than if you relied solely on AMD’s own Precision Boost Overdrive.
New to ASUS’ X670E lineup is Core Flex, which allows you to tune the clocks based on power and thermal parameters. Essentially this lets you squeeze more performance out of your AMD AM5 CPU, depending on the current temperature and power draw. For extreme overclockers, the ROG True Voltician miniature oscilloscope comes bundled with the ROG Crosshair X670 EXTREME and ROG Crosshair X670 GENE, for some serious in-depth data when overclocking to the very limits.
The fancy features aren’t limited to just the ROG Crosshair lineup though. The ITX form factor leaves little space for premium audio, so the ROG Strix X670E-I Gaming WiFi comes with the ROG Strix Hive. This is essentially a little desktop dongle that packs the Realtek ALC4050, ESS ES9260Q Quad-DAC for premium audio and also serves as a little USB hub. And oh, there’s a volume knob as well, that’s all the rage among keyboard enthusiasts nowadays.
