Acer’s First Predator Handheld Is a Heavy Hitter

Acer just dropped its first Predator gaming handheld, the Atlas 8, and the spec sheet is targeting the high end of the category. Powered by up to the new Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor with Intel Arc B390 graphics, the device brings ray tracing, XeSS 3 AI upscaling, and an 80Wh battery to the Windows handheld form factor. For Malaysian gamers who prefer Windows over SteamOS, this is one of the most powerful options coming in 2026.
Jerry Kao, COO at Acer, framed the launch as “blurring the lines between gaming PC and handheld performance” — a direct shot at the Steam Deck and ROG Ally.
Performance and Cooling
The Predator Atlas 8 (PA08-I51) is powered by up to the Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor with Intel Arc B390 graphics. Ray tracing support and Intel XeSS 3 AI-powered upscaling deliver smooth gameplay and high-fidelity visuals within handheld power ranges. The XeSS 3 is the key feature here — it uses AI to upscale lower-resolution frames, allowing the B390 to deliver higher framerates without overwhelming the battery.

The 80Wh battery (with optional 60Wh variant) is one of the largest in the handheld category. Pair it with Intel Endurance Gaming, which intelligently balances frame rate and power draw, and the Atlas 8 targets longer sessions on the road than most competitors.

Predator AeroBlade Cooling debuts on a handheld with what Acer calls the first metal fan in a handheld gaming device. The precision metal Predator AeroBlade fan features 89 blades at just 0.1mm thickness, delivering up to 10% more airflow than plastic fans. A second plastic fan works alongside it, with Vortex Flow tuning using angled internal channels to guide air through the chassis efficiently.
Display and Audio
The 8-inch WUXGA (1920×1200) touchscreen is the centerpiece of the Atlas 8’s visual experience:
- 16:10 aspect ratio
- 120Hz refresh rate with VRR (Variable Refresh Rate)
- 500 nits peak brightness
- Corning Gorilla Glass Victus with DXC
- 10-point multi-touch
- 100% sRGB, 77.68% Adobe RGB color gamut
The 120Hz VRR display is competitive with the Steam Deck OLED and ROG Ally X. 500 nits is bright enough for outdoor use in most conditions.
Audio: DTS:X Ultra through dual 2W speakers. Dual microphones with Acer PurifiedVoice for AI-assisted noise reduction.
Controls and Ergonomics
The Atlas 8 features a full-size control layout with several premium touches:

- Full-size analog sticks with carbon film contact
- Dual-mode triggers with micro-switch mode for FPS games (instant click) and Hall-effect analog control for racing/flight sims (range + pressure variation)
- L/R Macro buttons for in-game shortcuts
- L/R Adjustable Trigger switches for on-the-fly mode changes
- Dedicated PredatorSense button for quick system adjustments
- XBOX Game Bar Widget button for game overlay access
- Power button with fingerprint sensor
The dual-mode triggers are the standout feature. The ability to switch between micro-switch and Hall-effect analog on a single device is rare in this category — most handhelds lock you into one trigger type.
PredatorSense Comes to Handhelds
PredatorSense — the system monitoring and tuning app that’s been a Predator laptop staple — is now available on a handheld for the first time. It provides:
- Live system monitoring (CPU/GPU temps, fan speeds, framerate)
- Performance mode activation (Silent, Balanced, Performance, Turbo)
- RGB lighting customization
- Access to gameplay settings
A dedicated PredatorSense button enables fast in-game adjustments without exiting the game.
Connectivity and Storage
- Dual Thunderbolt 4 ports — high-bandwidth docking, display output, accessory connections
- UHS-II microSD card reader — fast external storage expansion (SD 4.0 support)
- Intel Killer Wi-Fi 7 BE1775s — latest wireless standard
- Bluetooth 5.4
- 3.5mm audio jack (combo)
The dual Thunderbolt 4 ports are a meaningful feature. Most handhelds have only one USB-C port, so the ability to dock and connect accessories simultaneously is a real differentiator.
Software and Bundles
- Windows 11 Home with XBOX Mode
- XBOX Game Pass Premium (2 months) + PC Game Pass (3 months)
- PredatorSense for system control

Our Take
The Predator Atlas 8 is the most powerful Windows gaming handheld Acer has ever built. The combination of Intel Arc G3 Extreme, Intel Arc B390 graphics, 80Wh battery, and dual Thunderbolt 4 ports makes it a serious competitor to the Steam Deck OLED and ROG Ally X.
The Predator AeroBlade metal fan is the hardware innovation worth watching. If Acer can sustain performance better than competitors with all-plastic cooling, the Atlas 8 will have a real thermal advantage in long gaming sessions.
The 8-inch 120Hz VRR display is competitive. 500 nits is bright enough for most environments, though the 77.68% Adobe RGB coverage isn’t creator-grade. For pure gaming, the sRGB 100% is more than enough.
The dual-mode triggers are genuinely useful. The micro-switch mode for FPS games gives you the snappy response that competitive players need, while the Hall-effect analog mode is perfect for racing games and flight sims. The fact that you can switch on the fly is rare in this category.
For Malaysian gamers, the October 2026 launch means we have to wait. Pricing will be the deciding factor — Acer has historically priced aggressively, and if the Atlas 8 lands below the ROG Ally X while delivering competitive performance, it could be the best-value Windows handheld of 2026.
The XBOX Game Pass bundle is a smart move. Microsoft’s subscription service has been gaining ground in the handheld space, and including both Premium and PC Game Pass trials gives buyers immediate access to hundreds of games.
The big question is whether Intel Arc G3 Extreme can match AMD’s Ryzen Z1 Extreme and Z2 Extreme in the handheld category. Intel has historically struggled with efficiency compared to AMD in the ultra-portable space, but the 80Wh battery and Intel Endurance Gaming are designed to mitigate that.
