The 11th Sustainability & CSR Malaysia Awards 2026 lit up Berjaya Times Square Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on 16 July, drawing roughly 800 corporate leaders, policymakers, NGOs and industry stakeholders. Organised by CSR Malaysia — an initiative under Pertubuhan Amal Tanggungjawab Kemapanan Dan Korporat Malaysia — the annual ceremony honoured more than 70 listed companies, government-linked companies and private enterprises that have, in the judges’ view, demonstrated exceptional commitment to ESG excellence.
Officiated by YB Puan Lim Hui Ying, Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Malaysia, the event paired the awards with the CSR Malaysia Carnival, where 24 charitable organisations and foundations engaged directly with corporate funders.
Tech and digital-economy names in the winners’ circle
The technology and digital-economy footprint of the awards was unusually heavy. Recognised recipients included WD Malaysia, Flex Penang and Flex Shah Alam (the global electronics manufacturer’s two Malaysian contract-manufacturing campuses), TNG Digital (the company behind the Touch ‘n Go eWallet), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Petrosains, Pos Malaysia Berhad and FedEx Malaysia. Logistics, healthcare and banking groups — RHB Banking Group, KPJ Healthcare Berhad, Sunway Healthcare Group — rounded out the broader ecosystem winners.
Six individuals also took individual honours. Dr Chandramogan Anamirtham, Senior Vice President of WD Malaysia, received the ESG Visionary Leader Award for embedding sustainability into corporate culture and community development. Dr John Loh of Emerging EPC Sdn Bhd, Datuk Ir. Dr Joseph Heng Weng Long of Victory Recovery Resources and Eric Ng Chin Kuong of ISP Group were among the other individual recipients.
Real money on the table
Beyond the trophies, participating companies presented donation cheques, cash and in-kind contributions amounting to RM30 million to various charitable organisations during the event. The judging criteria — measurable social impact, transparency in ESG reporting, total corporate contributions, innovation in programme implementation, organisational commitment, sincerity and overall effectiveness — put real weight on whether companies could show outcomes, not just intent.
The awards also recognised ESG efforts beyond borders: Western Digital was named to the 2026 S&P Dow Jones Best in Class Index North America earlier this year, reflecting how Malaysian operations feed into group-level sustainability reporting.
Our Take
There is a lot to like in this list, and a lot to take with a pinch of salt. The roster — WD, Flex, TNG Digital, MCMC, Pos Malaysia, FedEx — is genuinely impressive for an awards ceremony that could easily have been padded with property developers and F&B chains. RM30 million handed over to 24 charities in a single afternoon is real money moving in the right direction.
That said, an awards event is by definition a curated photograph, and the bigger question is what shows up on the balance sheet the rest of the year. ESG awards in Malaysia have a habit of cycling the same 30-40 conglomerates; whether the next 12 months actually moves the needle on emissions, e-waste and rural digital inclusion — not just glossy annual reports — is the metric worth watching. For Malaysian tech specifically, Flex and WD running sustainable manufacturing programmes matters more than most of the rest, because their supply chains shape the country’s industrial footprint.
