Cooler Master Hyper 620S

7.5

The Cooler Master Hyper 620S is a solid choice for anyone seeking a reliable and affordable CPU cooler. Its combination of performance, value, and ease of installation make it a great option for both novice and experienced PC builders.

Positives
  • Good cooling performance
  • Spectrum fan perform great
  • Extra corrosion protection with silver nickle plate
Negatives
  • Silver nickle plate have lower thermal transfer capacity.

Cooler Master’s Hyper series has been a staple for PC air cooling for a decade. I remember I bought my first Hyper 212 to cool my Sandy bridge Intel Core i5 back in 2011. The series’ performance has always been very commendable, which is why users kept returning to it after all these years.

Hyper 620S

Today, we’re taking a look at Hyper 620s, the consumer-level dual tower cooler with an unrealistically low price point. In this review, we will mainly be testing it with AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, checking its performance and seeing if the classic Cooler Master Hyper series can handle modern processors.

Cooler Master Hyper 620S, Shiny Silvery Dual Tower

Hyper 620S

The cooler design is a basic dual tower configuration, with the fins tower held up by 6 Nickel-Plated Heat Pipes. Despite the shiny outlook, the base plate is still copper; the cooler has coated it with a layer of silver nickel-plated copper.

This is likely for aesthetic reasons since nickel has lower thermal conductivity than copper. With that in mind, nickel plating does offer great corrosion resistance and is all-around more durable.

The Spectrum Fan

Cooler Master bundled the Hyper 620S with a pair of fans. These fans, named Spectrum ARGB, spin at an optimized curve of 650 to 1750 RPM. They look like modified SickleFlow fans, but the Spectrum fans spin at a slightly lower speed and lower air pressure but deliver higher airflow. Lastly, as the name suggests, the Spectrum ARGB fans are equipped with ARGB lighting.

Cooler Master Hyper 620S Test

In our tests, we put the CPU at idle for 10 minutes, observing a few temperature spikes. However, the average temperature stabilized at 39°c.

Subsequently, we conducted a 10-minute stress test on the CPU, resulting in a maximum temperature of 71°c. The average temperature during the stress test was 69.27°c.

I would also like to add the Spectrum fans are quiet enough in an open case test bench environment. With only gentle humming sound at full load.

Cooler Master Hyper 620S Conclusion

Hyper 620S

The Cooler Master Hyper 620S, priced at RM179, offers an affordable dual-tower cooling solution. While it’s slightly more expensive than the 4-heat pipe Hyper 212 Halo Edition at RM149, the additional RM30 investment provides two extra heat pipes and a visually appealing silver nickel-plated finish.

Hyper 620S

With the dual tower configuration and stellar Spectrum Fans, the Hyper 620S can taming most main stream CPU. For users seeking to effectively cool their CPUs, the Cooler Master Hyper 620S is a solid choice. Its combination of performance, affordability, and aesthetic appeal makes it a compelling option for PC enthusiasts.

With that, we recommend the Hyper 620S for those who seek to cool their CPU in silvery style, and award it with our silver award.
