ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) Malaysia has officially launched the ROG Ally X, the successor to its popular handheld gaming console. Designed for seamless Windows 11 gaming on the go, the ROG Ally X retains the powerful AMD Ryzen™ Z1 Extreme processor but introduces substantial improvements in storage, memory, battery life, and user experience.

Enhanced Power and Performance

The ROG Ally X takes user feedback to heart, incorporating significant upgrades to its core components. Storage capacity leaps from 512 GB to a whopping 1 TB with the new M.2 2280 SSD, ensuring ample space for your game library. Additionally, the redesigned motherboard boasts an M.2 2280 form factor slot, allowing for future storage upgrades.

Performance is further bolstered by a massive 24 GB of LPDDR5X-7500 RAM. As an APU (Accelerated Processing Unit), the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor shares its video RAM with the system memory. This substantial memory increase allows for better allocation between the system and GPU, resulting in smoother performance for demanding AAA titles.

Battery life is another area of significant improvement. The ROG Ally X boasts an 80 Wh battery, doubling the capacity of its predecessor. This translates to longer gaming sessions without needing to be tethered to a power outlet. Remarkably, despite the larger battery, the weight increase is a mere 70 grams, and the weight distribution is optimized for comfortable handheld gaming.

Improved Ergonomics and Cooling

The ROG Ally X sports a redesigned chassis in a sleek black colorway. The deeper handles and rounded shape provide a more comfortable grip without adding significant bulk. The button and joystick layout has been adjusted for better ergonomics, with a slight slant to the triggers for easier activation. The macro buttons on the back are now smaller to minimize accidental presses while remaining readily accessible.

The joysticks have been revamped with a focus on durability, boasting a 5-million-cycle lifespan and stiffer springs that mimic the feel of traditional console controllers. The D-Pad has also been refined, offering more precise eight-directional input ideal for fighting games and retro titles.

In response to user feedback, the original XG Mobile port has been replaced with two USB-C® ports on the ROG Ally X. One of these ports is Thunderbolt™ compatible, enabling broader connectivity with third-party docks and external GPUs.

To accommodate the upgraded components and extended battery life, the ROG Ally X features a new thermal management system. This includes smaller, yet more efficient fans with thinner blades for improved airflow. Additionally, two new tunnels within the fan housing direct air upwards and outwards through a third exhaust vent located on the top edge of the device. This enhanced cooling solution effectively manages heat generation, keeping both internal components and the touchscreen cooler for a more comfortable gaming experience.
