In a significant move towards sustainability, Acer declared its commitment to carbon neutrality for the Aspire Vero laptop series, commencing with the newly unveiled Aspire Vero 16 (AV16-51P). Aligning with international standards for carbon footprint calculation, the tech company is implementing measures at every stage of the device’s life cycle to minimize its carbon footprint. High-quality carbon credits will then be utilized to achieve carbon neutrality.

Tech Giant Takes Strides Towards Sustainable Computing in the Face of Climate Change

Jerry Kao, COO of Acer Inc., emphasized the company’s dual approach in addressing climate challenges. He stated, “To help tackle the increasing challenges posed by climate change, on the product side, Acer is proposing ‘conscious technology’ designed and made with consideration for the future.” Kao added, “On the corporate side, Acer has joined the RE100 initiative and committed to achieving 100% renewable electricity by 2035. We have also pledged to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.”

Acer’s Pledge to Carbon Neutrality

Since its inception, the Aspire Vero series has prioritized eco-conscious design, aiming to reduce its carbon footprint throughout its life cycle. From manufacturing and packaging to end-of-life recycling, each process has undergone meticulous examination for emission reduction. The latest addition, Aspire Vero 16 (AV16-51P), features:

  • Color, Material, and Finish: The chassis incorporates over 60% recycled plastic (up from 30% in the first generation), free of volatile organic compounds, paint, or additives. The touchpad surface utilizes ocean-bound plastic.
  • Components: Equipped with the latest Intel® Core™ Ultra processors for enhanced power efficiency. The new integrated neural processing unit (NPU) introduces AI-powered capabilities with extreme energy efficiency.
  • Packaging: Utilizes recycled scrap material and 100% recyclable packaging to reduce the carbon footprint. The design allows easy repurposing of the 100% recycled FSC-certified paper box.
  • Shipping: Acer collaborates with logistics partners to decrease sea container emissions through biofuel usage on various routes.
  • Usage: AcerSense™ battery management software focuses on energy efficiency, offering four performance modes: Eco+, Eco, Balanced, and Performance.
  • Recycling and Repair: Standard screws are employed for quick and easy disassembly, facilitating repair, upgrade, or recycling.

Upon implementing these emission reduction initiatives, Acer will retire high-quality carbon credits, marking a pivotal step towards carbon neutrality.
