2026 BYD Sealion 7 Lands in Malaysia on 30 July With 91.3 kWh Battery and 800V Charging
TLDR
- BYD’s refreshed Sealion 7 electric SUV officially debuts in Malaysia on 30 July 2026, with a public roadshow at 1 Utama running 29 July to 2 August.
- Teaser data points to a 91.3 kWh Blade LFP battery and up to 502 km WLTP range — a clear step up from the current 82.5 kWh pack.
- 800V architecture unlocks 230 kW DC fast charging and a 10–80% top-up in roughly 24 minutes.
- Reference pricing sits at RM183,800 (Premium) and RM199,800 (Performance); 2026 launch pricing will likely creep higher.
BYD Malaysia has locked in 30 July 2026 as the official launch date for the refreshed 2026 BYD Sealion 7, ending months of teasers about the brand’s flagship electric SUV. The car will roll out through a public roadshow at 1 Utama Shopping Centre from 29 July to 2 August 2026, giving prospective buyers an early look before dealer deliveries begin.
Based on the dark-blue teaser images that BYD Malaysia posted on Facebook, the exterior changes look subtle — fresh wheels, minor trim updates and a revised colour palette. The substantive upgrade is underneath, where BYD is finally bringing over the 91.3 kWh Blade LFP battery pack that European-market Sealion 7s have carried since launch.

Bigger Battery, 800V Charging
The headline upgrade is the 91.3 kWh Blade LFP pack paired with an 800-volt electrical architecture. That combination is expected to deliver up to 502 km of WLTP-rated range on the Performance AWD — a sizeable jump from the 454 km the current 82.5 kWh version manages, and well clear of the 480 km the Premium RWD offers today.
The shift to 800V is arguably the bigger story for Malaysian buyers who rely on the public DC charging network. The new architecture unlocks charging speeds of up to 230 kW, trimming the 10–80% top-up to roughly 24 minutes — a clear improvement over the 32 minutes current 400V models need at up to 150 kW. Long-distance runs up the North-South Expressway should feel noticeably more convenient once the new cars hit the road.
Powertrain outputs look set to carry over unchanged: 313 PS and 380 Nm for the Premium RWD, and 530 PS with 690 Nm for the Performance AWD. Both numbers will be enough to keep the Sealion 7 competitive against the newer Zeekr 7X and Xpeng G6, both of which already use 800V systems.

Variants and Pricing Outlook
Malaysia got the Sealion 7 in two flavours when it first landed in November 2024 — the Premium RWD at RM183,800 and the Performance AWD at RM199,800, both tax-free on-road figures. The 2026 refresh is widely expected to keep that two-variant structure, with the only real question being how much BYD will push prices up to absorb the bigger battery and 800V hardware.
Pricing is also being watched because of MITI’s new EV policy that took effect on 1 July 2026, which sets a minimum CIF value of RM200,000 for imported CBU EVs before this year’s duties are applied. Whether the 2026 Sealion 7 stays CBU or moves to local assembly will determine how aggressive the launch price can be. Inside, expect a powered rear sunshade, refreshed upholstery, and the carryover 15.6-inch rotating infotainment display plus DiPilot 300 driver assistance.
Our Take
The 2026 BYD Sealion 7 is exactly the kind of mid-cycle refresh the model needed. The original was always strong on paper, but its 400V architecture made it feel a generation behind rivals like the Zeekr 7X and Xpeng G6. With the move to 800V and the larger battery, the Sealion 7 finally closes that gap on charging speed and range while keeping the punchy Performance AWD powertrain enthusiasts already liked.
For Malaysian buyers shopping in the RM180k–RM200k bracket, the bigger question is whether the new pricing will land above or below that invisible line. If BYD keeps the Performance under RM210k on the road, it becomes one of the most compelling performance EVs in the country. Push it past RM220k and the value case gets harder against the Xpeng G6 CKD and the refreshed Atto 3. Anyone holding off on a Sealion 7 booking in the last six months has clearly been rewarded for the wait.
