Acer Goes All-In on 3:2 Mobile Productivity

Acer just announced five new mobile devices at Computex 2026 — three Iconia Duo tablets and two glasses products (AR Vision GR0 and GI0 AI glasses). The big theme is the 3:2 aspect ratio debut on Acer tablets, optimized for both media consumption and productivity. The tablets run Android 16, and the glasses target two distinct use cases: immersive AR for work/play, and Gemini-powered AI for hands-free everyday use.

For Malaysian users who’ve been looking for alternatives to Samsung Galaxy Tab and iPad, the Iconia Duo lineup is a strong Android option at competitive price points.

  • 120Hz refresh rate
  • 100% DCI-P3 color accuracy

The 14.2-inch OLED with 3:2 aspect ratio is a serious creative tool. The Dimensity 8300 is MediaTek’s flagship tablet SoC, and the DisplayPort in/out capability (via USB-C) means the S14 can function as a portable monitor — a unique feature in this category.

The 600 nits brightness and nano texture glass are the differentiators vs the S14. For outdoor or bright-environment use, the S12 is the better choice.

Acer Iconia Duo D12 — Entry-Level 3:2

The Iconia Duo D12 (D12-11M) brings the 3:2 aspect ratio to a more accessible price point.

The Helio G99 is a solid mid-range SoC. For users who want the 3:2 productivity benefits without paying flagship prices, the D12 is the most interesting option.

Acer AR Vision GR0 — 172-Inch Virtual Screen Glasses

The Acer AR Vision GR0 (GR100F) is a wired AR glasses accessory that connects to Android, iOS, or Windows devices. The dual micro OLED FHD screens create an AR experience “comparable to a 172-inch screen viewed from 6 meters away.”

Key specs:

  • Two micro OLED screens, 200 nits, 1920×1080 (2D) / 3840×1080 (3D)
  • 60 Hz refresh rate
  • 95% DCI-P3 color gamut
  • 24-bit color, 50,000:1 contrast ratio
  • Stereo dynamic audio (one unit on each side)
  • Wired connection
  • Swipe brightness, swipe volume controls
  • IPD: 64 mm, 69 g weight
  • 3DoF, accelerometers, proximity, magnetometers
  • Detachable light shield, myopia magnetic lens option

Use cases:

  • Immersive gaming
  • AR-enabled work productivity
  • AR-enabled learning
  • Privacy for work viewing in public spaces
  • 2D and 3D content support

The 69g weight is impressively light for AR glasses. The wired connection means no battery to worry about — power comes from the host device. The 172-inch virtual screen is a meaningful way to consume media or work on documents without needing a large physical display.

Acer GI0 — 46g Gemini AI Glasses

The Acer GI0 (GI100) is a wireless, hands-free AI assistant that pairs with Android and iOS devices. It’s powered by Google Gemini, with voice-activated interaction, real-time image analysis, and instant translation.

Key specs:

  • Google Gemini AI assistant
  • Compatible with Android 12+ and iOS 15+
  • 12 MP camera (3024×4032 stills, 1920×1080@30fps video)
  • Stereo audio (one dynamic unit on each side)
  • 3 microphones
  • 32 GB eMMC storage
  • 217 mAh battery
  • Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0
  • Acer AspireSync companion app
  • Capture button with short/long press
  • 46 g weight (without lenses)
  • Voice AI assistant, status LED, side touchpad, AI translations, AI captions

The GI0 is positioned as a smart glasses alternative to Meta Ray-Ban and the upcoming Apple smart glasses. The 46g weight is impressively light, the Gemini integration is the most interesting feature, and the photo/video capture + AI captions make it a useful travel and meeting companion.

The 217 mAh battery is small — expect a few hours of mixed use, not all-day. Acer doesn’t specify battery life, which suggests it’s the limiting factor for this form factor.

Our Take

Acer’s Iconia Duo lineup is a meaningful addition to the Android tablet market. The 3:2 aspect ratio is the right call — it’s the productivity sweet spot that Microsoft Surface pioneered, and it works equally well for media consumption. The Dimensity 8300 and 7400 are MediaTek’s flagship tablet chips, so the S14 and S12 should deliver strong performance.

For Malaysian creative professionals, the S14’s DisplayPort in/out capability is unique. The ability to use the tablet as a portable monitor for a laptop or desktop is a real differentiator in the Android tablet space.

The AR Vision GR0 is the most interesting product in the lineup. The 172-inch virtual screen at 69g weight and a wired connection (no battery concerns) makes this a practical accessory for work and play. The compatibility with Android, iOS, and Windows is a meaningful differentiator vs Meta Ray-Ban (iOS/Android only) and Apple Vision Pro (Apple ecosystem only).

The GI0 AI glasses are a more cautious play. The 46g weight, Gemini integration, and 12 MP camera make it competitive with Meta Ray-Ban on hardware. The 217 mAh battery is a concern — Meta Ray-Ban gets 4-6 hours of mixed use on a larger battery. Acer will need to demonstrate real-world battery life.

For Malaysian consumers, the pricing on the S14, S12, and D12 will determine their competitiveness vs Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 and Apple iPad Air. Acer typically prices 15-25% below Samsung equivalents, which could make the Iconia Duo lineup very compelling for budget-conscious Android tablet buyers.

The 3:2 aspect ratio is the most important strategic decision here. Samsung and Apple are still pushing 16:10 (iPad) and 16:9 (older Galaxy Tab), while Acer has gone with 3:2 for productivity-first use. If the 3:2 tablets perform well, expect Samsung and Apple to revisit the aspect ratio for their productivity-focused tablets.
