In a leap forward for quantum computing research, Australia’s Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre partners with NVIDIA to enhance its National Supercomputing and Quantum Computing Innovation Hub.

Researchers at the Perth-based center will utilize the NVIDIA CUDA Quantum platform, accelerated by the advanced NVIDIA Grace Hopper Superchips. These superchips, combining NVIDIA Grace CPU and Hopper GPU architectures, promise extreme performance for high-fidelity and scalable quantum simulations.

Quantum Computing Breakthroughs

Pawsey Supercomputing Centre’s scientists aim to address quantum computing challenges using CUDA Quantum, an open-source hybrid quantum computing platform. This platform features robust simulation tools and capabilities to program hybrid CPU, GPU, and QPU systems. Additionally, they will leverage the NVIDIA cuQuantum software development kit for optimized libraries and tools, accelerating quantum computing workflows.

The NVIDIA Grace Hopper Superchip provides exceptional capabilities, allowing researchers to run complex quantum simulations on accelerators. Its seamless interface with future quantum hardware infrastructure positions Pawsey Supercomputing Centre at the forefront of quantum research.

The deployment of eight NVIDIA Grace Hopper Superchip nodes based on NVIDIA MGX modular architecture is set to revolutionize quantum workloads. Pawsey aims to study quantum machine learning, chemistry simulations, image processing for radio astronomy, financial analysis, bioinformatics, and specialized quantum simulators. This endeavor aligns with Australia’s national science agency CSIRO’s vision, estimating a $2.5 billion annual revenue opportunity from quantum computing by 2040.
