Introduction: Safeguarding Malaysia’s Future Vision
HOYA Malaysia has successfully brought its nationwide “A Million Visions” campaign to a close, a substantial initiative held in conjunction with World Sight Day 2025. This week-long program underscored the company’s long-term commitment to safeguarding the ocular health of Malaysiaβs future generations by offering free, professional eye examinations for children aged 5 to 12. The services were made accessible through over 800 participating Eye Care Professional Optical Stores across the country, significantly increasing the availability of vision screening services.

Driven by the imperative that every child merits clear, healthy vision, the campaign focused on elevating public consciousness regarding the growing prevalence of childhood myopia and emphasizing the importance of early detection and intervention. Through this dedicated endeavor, HOYA Malaysia empowers parents to take the critical first step in protecting their children’s eyesight, ensuring that professional assessments are widely available, affordable, and easily accessible.
Lew Chee Quin, Managing Director of HOYA Malaysia, asserts the brandβs mission, stating, βVision is not merely about eyesight; it is fundamentally about opportunity, education, and quality of life. Every child deserves the chance to see the world clearly. Through our campaign, we aim to promote early eye checks and raise awareness nationwide. When we generate awareness and take proactive steps together, we are protecting their future and not solely their eyesight.β
Local Clinical Validation of D.I.M.S. Technology
As a concluding and critical milestone of the campaign, HOYA Malaysia proudly highlights the official publication of a clinical study titled “Effectiveness of DIMS Lens in Slowing Myopia Progression among Malay Schoolchildren.” This pivotal research was conducted by academic researchers from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), marking the first local study in Malaysia to evaluate the efficacy of the Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments (D.I.M.S.) technology within the domestic population.

The study was structured as a prospective randomized controlled trial in Kuala Lumpur, involving 42 primary schoolchildren aged 7 to 12 over a comprehensive 12-month period. Participants were randomly assigned to wear either MiYOSMART lenses incorporating the D.I.M.S. technology or conventional single-vision lenses prescribed for full-time daily use.
Quantifying the Reduction in Myopia Progression
The outcome of the clinical trial provides robust local evidence affirming the efficacy of the HOYA technology for Malaysian children. After one year of consistent wear, children utilizing the D.I.M.S. lenses exhibited a significantly slower rate of myopia progression compared to their counterparts wearing standard single-vision lenses.
Specifically, the D.I.M.S. group experienced only a β0.16 D change in myopia and a marginal +0.07 mm increase in axial length, which are clear indicators of substantially decelerated progression. Overall, the aggregated results conclusively demonstrated an average 65% reduction in myopia progression. Furthermore, the study noted that the MiYOSMART lenses provided clear and stable vision, with all children adapting comfortably to full-time daily wear for approximately 16 hours per day.
Developed in collaboration with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the MiYOSMART lenses are powered by D.I.M.S. technology and benefit from extensive international research. The successful Malaysian study provides essential local validation, reinforcing the effectiveness of this innovative approach within the country’s diverse demographic.
Ongoing Commitment to Vision Care and Education
Through the successful execution of the “A Million Visions” campaign and the publication of crucial local data, HOYA Malaysia continues to advance its core mission. Lew Chee Quin emphasizes the ongoing dedication, stating, βTogether with our optical partners, HOYA Malaysia remains deeply committed to ensuring children receive early and proper vision screening. Through the βA Million Visionsβ campaign, we are strengthening our efforts to reach schools and communities nationwide, offering our expertise to support early detection and proactive myopia prevention.β
By strategically combining rigorous, research-backed innovation with nationwide public outreach and accessible vision care education, HOYA Malaysia continues to establish itself as a key champion for pediatric eye health, ensuring that every family is empowered to protect their childβs vision for a clearer, brighter future.
