Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) recently marked a significant decade of commitment to nurturing local technological prowess with the culmination of the 10th Huawei ICT Competition Malaysia 2025–2026. The fiercely contested final saw students from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), IMU University, and Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) clinching the top honors. The awards ceremony was graced by the presence of the Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Higher Education, YBhg. Datuk Ts. Dr. Mohd Nor Azman bin Hassan, who officiated the event.

This competition powerfully underscores Huawei Malaysia’s supportive role in constructing a sustainable digital talent pipeline and advancing the digital education landscape across Malaysia. Speaking on behalf of the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, YBhg. Datuk Ts. Dr. Mohd Nor Azman bin Hassan lauded the initiative, asserting that the Huawei ICT Academy, through its certification programs, substantially strengthens the ecosystem by providing students with structured, industry-recognised pathways to develop essential Information and Communications Technology (ICT) capabilities.

National Champions Across Key Technological Tracks

The competition attracted an unprecedented level of participation for its 10th edition, drawing more than 1,900 students from a total of 43 private and public higher education institutions nationwide. From this highly competitive pool, 16 teams secured top honors across four distinct competition tracks: Network, Cloud, Computing, and Innovation.

The Grand Prize Winners:

  • Network Track: The grand prize goes to the team from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), led by instructor Ahmad Alauddin Bin Ariffin and students Logith Mohana Krishnan, Sashvant Vadevell, and Sio Zixin.
  • Innovation Track: IMU University triumphs in this category, with students Sam Tao Kien, Keh Pei Rou, and Chee Yue Mei, under the mentorship of instructor Thein Oak Kyaw Zaw.
  • Cloud and Computing Tracks: Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) demonstrated remarkable dominance, clinching both the Cloud and Computing grand prizes. The Computing Track winning team comprised students Meng Zijian, Wai Pui Shan, and Wong Wan Ning, guided by instructor Toa Chean Khim. The Cloud Track victory was secured by students Wu Haoren, Li Haocong, and Ge Hanwen, under the leadership of instructor Dilshani Hansika Mallikarachchi.

Elevating Malaysian Innovators

The competition is widely recognized as a crucial platform for academic and professional development. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, President and Chief Executive Officer of Multimedia University (MMU) which co-organised the event, highlighted that the contest serves to nurture skilled professionals and visionary leaders. These individuals are expected to drive Malaysia’s digital transformation and establish the nation’s talent pool as its strongest national asset. He further emphasized that the competition transcends mere academic rigor, acting as a vital mechanism that identifies, trains, and elevates the next generation of Malaysian innovators.

Mr. Oliver Liu, Vice-Chancellor of the Huawei ASEAN Academy, announced ambitious plans for the future. He stated that Huawei Malaysia intends to establish more Huawei Academies to build a robust digital education ecosystem, directly supporting Malaysia’s strategic vision of becoming the ASEAN Digital Capital. He notes that the Huawei ICT Academy offers students and educators the invaluable opportunity to gain practical applications in cutting-edge fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and data analysis, which are vital to today’s rapidly evolving technology sector. The competition, in turn, complements this by providing a high-stakes arena for students to display their ICT skills, ideas, and promote healthy competition and knowledge sharing.

Recognizing Excellence in Digital Education

In addition to the student competition tracks, the awards ceremony also recognized the institutions and educators who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to digital education.

Outstanding ICT Academy 2025:

Institutions honored with the Outstanding ICT Academy 2025 award include Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Multimedia University (MMU), Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), INTI International College Penang, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Universiti Teknologi MARA, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), and Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).

Most Dedicated Instructor 2025:

Ten educators received the Most Dedicated Instructor 2025 award for their instrumental role in strengthening Malaysia’s ICT teaching capability. These dedicated instructors hail from various institutions, including four from MMU (Prabha Kumaresan, Ho Sin Ban, Lee Fong Yee, and Ng Kok Why), two from XMUM (Lee Sui Ping and Toa Chean Khim), two from Universiti Teknologi Mara (Azliza Mohd Ali and Erny Arniza Ahmad), Tan Soo Fun from UMS, and Mohd Fairuz Iskandar Othman from Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka.

To date, Huawei Malaysia has successfully established 53 ICT Academies across the nation and has trained over 54,000 individuals in digital skills, a feat that surpasses the company’s initial target of 50,000 by 2025. This commitment underscores a sustained effort to empower Malaysian youths and educators to thrive in the global digital economy.
