Beyond mere knocks and scrapes, this machine is engineered to perform reliably across a spectrum of challenging environments. For content creators who spend significant time writing and working, the PX13’s keyboard proves to be a significant asset, offering a level of comfort and performance rarely found in such a portable machine – it’s a keyboard with remarkably little compromise.

Asus Dial

A standout feature that truly elevates the content creation experience on the ProArt PZ13 is the integrated ASUS Dial.  For those unfamiliar, the ASUS Dial essentially functions as a virtual scroll wheel, meticulously designed to provide quick and incredibly precise adjustments within compatible creative software. 

On the PZ13, ASUS has opted for a virtual implementation of the Dial, a sleek, flat ring subtly integrated into the touchpad surface, rather than a traditional mechanical rotating dial.  While innovative, discovering its activation wasn’t immediately intuitive. 

Surprisingly, there’s a noticeable lack of guide on how to how this feature.  It took a bit of experimentation to realize that swiping down to halfway on the marked circle at the top right of the touchpad is the key to summoning the Dial. 

Once this initial hurdle is overcome, the ASUS Dial transforms into an indispensable tool, seamlessly integrating into demanding workflows like DaVinci Resolve.  Suddenly, precision fine-tuning of settings, rapid timeline navigation, and on-the-fly access to shortcuts become incredibly fluid and tactile. 

Personally, as someone who struggles with keyboard shortcut memorization, the Dial has been a revelation.  Where recalling complex keyboard combinations often breaks workflow and sends me reaching for the mouse, the ASUS Dial provides a visually intuitive and customizable shortcut palette right at my fingertips. 

The ability to customize the wheel’s functions and assign preferred shortcuts essentially creates a personalized, tactile shortcut board, dramatically streamlining creative tasks and boosting editing efficiency.

Things I don’t like about the PX13

Power adapter could do a lot better, or smaller, or lighter

Regrettably, one aspect of the ProArt PX13 experience significantly falls short of the otherwise excellent design: the power adapter.  In stark contrast to the laptop’s celebrated lightweight and compact form factor, the included power brick feels disproportionately bulky and heavy. 

It’s genuinely perplexing – the adapter weighs almost as much as the PX13 itself, yet occupies only a fraction of the volume.  This ungainly accessory actively undermines the carefully cultivated portability of the PX13, transforming what should be an effortless carry into a slightly cumbersome chore. 

The promise of a truly mobile workstation is somewhat diminished when you’re forced to lug around a power adapter that feels more akin to a desktop component. 

Compounding this issue is the reality of alternative charging methods, such as USB-C, which unfortunately throttle the PX13’s performance.  While USB-C charging offers a degree of convenience in a pinch, relying on it means sacrificing the full potential of the powerful internals that define the PX13. 

In essence, the power adapter feels like an unwelcome anchor tethering this otherwise incredibly liberating mobile machine.
