ProArt GoPro Edition

8

I really like that ASUS went this far out of their way to design the packaging for the ProArt GoPro Edition.

What's Good?
  • Incredible attention to detail in the packaging
  • Versatile form factor, versatile hardware
  • Plenty of ports, no dongles needed
What's Not?
  • Could be more portable
  • Relatively mediocre display

The ASUS ProArt series is the flagship creator-centric lineup for the Taiwanese brand, and this collaboration with GoPro sure is fitting. While most GoPro creators are already accustomed to shooting anywhere they go, the ProArt GoPro Edition now allows them to also edit their content wherever they go. With all that said, let’s have a closer look at this to see whether it’s worth your money.

ProArt GoPro Edition — What’s Good?

Incredible attention to detail in the packaging

ProArt GoPro Edition review packaging and sleeve

The laptop comes in a sturdy box, paired with a sturdy sleeve features an outer strap to tie down any accessories. As you can see here, I have the included ASUS Pen 3.0 stylus tied down, but of course, it’s meant for maybe a mini tripod or maybe a *cough* Osmo Pocket *cough*

ProArt GoPro Edition review inside the sleeve

The insides are nicely felted, with a useful mesh pocket and plenty of stretchy straps to attach your other gear to. Overall, I think this is the best sleeve/case I have ever seen bundled with a laptop, and I have seen many laptops.

ProArt GoPro Edition review packaging foam blocks reusable

The ProArt GoPro Edition comes in an exclusive box that has these Velcro straps. Unlike most packaging, ASUS intends for you to reuse this box. On the inside there are these pre-cut foam blocks so you can use it as extra storage to secure your gear when you’re out and about.

ProArt GoPro Edition review packaging highlight

I really like that ASUS went this far out of their way to design the packaging for the ProArt GoPro Edition. While most brands will probably stop at a nice-looking box, they actually went ahead and made the box reusable. Big kudos to them.

Versatile form factor, versatile hardware

ProArt GoPro Edition review 2-in-1 design

Based off the ProArt PX13 first introduced in 2024, the ProArt GoPro Edition inherits the flexible 2-in-1 convertible form factor. This design is pretty helpful for creators, combining the usability of a tablet and a laptop, all in one device. The nice 13.3-inch 3K display here supports touch and also the ASUS Pen 3.0 stylus — which is included in the box.

ProArt GoPro Edition review RAM and CPU

On the inside, the AMD Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 is a pretty beefy chip too, with desktop-class CPU performance and graphics prowess on par with a GeForce RTX 4060, all in one package. But the most impressive advantage of using this chip is the ability to have 128GB of unified memory. To have 128GB of RAM in this economy, you must be quite a baller indeed. But to be able to allocate up to 96GB of that memory as your VRAM, now that’s truly special. Needless to say, you’re well set for any AI or editing workloads that life will throw your way with the ProArt GoPro Edition.

Plenty of ports, no dongles needed

ProArt GoPro Edition PX13 Review microSD card slot and other I/O ports

The ProArt PX13 before it already had the microSD card slot, but with the ProArt GoPro Edition, it takes on additional context. Since all GoPros use microSD cards instead of the standard SD cards, the ProArt GoPro Edition allows you to quickly transfer footage shot on GoPro for your editing. For your other connectivity needs, there’s the full array of ports — two USB4 Type-C for up to 40Gbps speeds, HDMI 2.1 (FRL) and a standard USB 3.2 Type-A port (10Gbps). WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 round off the connectivity stack.

Could be more portable

ProArt GoPro Edition review is a bit thicker and heavier than expected

While the packaging was fantastic and the hardware inside received a nice upgrade, I wished that ASUS worked just as hard on the chassis of the ProArt GoPro Edition. As it stands, it’s pretty hefty for a 13.3-inch laptop at 1.39kg, and it’s also quite thick — 15.8mm. While I would think the thickness is not particularly a concern given the nice sleeve, I would prefer a much lighter laptop if I was going to bring it with me on my excursions into the unknown.

Relatively mediocre display

ProArt GoPro Edition review screen is not as bright as we would like
Sub-400 nits max brightness limits outdoor usability

While ASUS has just unveiled some incredible Zenbooks with up to 1100 nits HDR peak brightness and 120Hz refresh rates, the ProArt GoPro Edition’s display is shared with its predecessor — 500 nits HDR peak brightness and a sedate 60Hz refresh rate. More brightness would definitely have been appreciated in the great outdoors where GoPro users roam, and sure, creators may value color accuracy more than smoothness. However, ASUS has managed to deliver accurate colors with refresh rates of up to 144Hz and 1000 nits peak brightness without issue, so this does feel like a cost-cutting measure in a flagship product, nonetheless.

ProArt GoPro Edition — should you get this?

ProArt GoPro Edition review design

If you have a need for the massive VRAM buffer, then yes. The ProArt GoPro Edition is one of the very few laptops in the market that you can get with 128GB. It will set you back a fair share, but for RM14,999, it almost feels like a steal in this economy. The GoPro-inspired packaging, sleeve and overall design is also quite nice, although the minimalism of the GoPro design language also means that it doesn’t look that different from a regular ProArt PX13.

ProArt GoPro Edition review better to get ProArt PX13

On that note, if you don’t care for the two points I mentioned above, the ProArt PX13 has also been refreshed with the same Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 chip, albeit with 64GB RAM, and for RM3,000 less. If you’re a creator who can appreciate a portable 13-inch workstation but have no use for the insane 128GB RAM and GoPro stuff, I would recommend getting the ProArt PX13 (HN7306EA) instead.
