Anker Charger 140W (B2697) Quick Review — charge more, charge faster

We will be taking a look at the Anker Charger 140W — or what is also referred to as the Anker Zolo 140W — the second 140W charger to come across our desk. There’s USB-PD 3.1 support, which allows it to support the 16-inch MacBook Pros, which in turn are among the very few devices that fully support the standard. What really sets the Anker Charger 140W from the Rocoren 140W GaN Fast Charger apart however is the way the 140W power is split across the ports, which we will get into in detail later on. In case you’re still unsure on how to pick your next charger, check out these articles:

Compact, portable design

Anker Charger 140W folding plug Review

Anker went with a nice, rounded block design attached to a flanged UK plug with foldable pins. This prevents it from damaging the other stuff in your bag when you bring it around with you. They also smartly hid the power ratings and certifications on this wall-facing side of the Anker Charger 140W, keeping all the other sides clean and sleek.

On that note of portability, it’s worth mentioning that the front face and down-facing ports feature a glossy plastic finish. I would have much preferred the plastic surrounding the ports to have a matte finish, considering how often you will find yourself trying to plug in a USB cable blind, and inadvertently scratching the surface. But hey, it’s usually out of sight, so I can almost forgive it.

Versatile power split across ports

The Anker Charger 140W’s design harness two equally capable ports — labelled C1 and C2 — that can deliver up to 140W when running solo, or up to 100W when either C3 or A1 is used. Compared to the my earlier Rocoren 140W GaN Charger, this configuration is more versatile and takes better advantage of its 4-port design. It is also able to sustain a total output of 140W even when three ports are used, which is a major plus.

Supports virtually all major charging standards

When it comes to charging standards, the Anker Charger 140W supports virtually all major charging standards, with excellent support for USB-PD, QuickCharge and also the more brand-specific fast charging standards like AFC, FCP, SCP and UFCS. As mentioned earlier, the two equally capable ports intelligently switches between the two ports to deliver 140W to a single device.

Nifty display

I am not exactly sure why do chargers and power banks need displays, but at least the Anker Charger 140W makes good use of it. With output power tracking, temperature monitoring to identify when it’s throttling and also a cute emoji face when it goes to sleep, I really quite like the screen here. Sure, I do have most of my chargers stowed away in places that will make the display pointless to me, but I can see the appeal for those who would have the Anker Charger 140W plugged on your desks.

Anker Charger 140W (B2697) — should you buy this?

You can get this for approximately RM250 on Shopee (MSRP is RM449), which means that the Anker Charger 140W — or Anker Zolo 140W — is quite significantly pricier than the Rocoren 140W GaN Fast Charger. However, it offers a more premium design with a screen, unique down-facing ports, foldable pins for portability, a more versatile power output split across more ports and is also backed by a long 18-month warranty. For what I consider an overall better package and also Anker’s longer warranty, I think this is a charger worth getting if you need something that can quickly juice up at least three devices simultaneously. And oh, it also comes with a nice, braided cable that was so nice my colleague ran away with it before I had the chance to take a picture of it. So yeah, while it isn’t cheap, it offers good value indeed.
