Lenovo is bringing its second-generation entertainment tablet to Malaysia, and the company is making a clear bet: the next battleground for Android tablets is the couch, the kitchen, and the camping tent, not the office.

The Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 launches at Lenovo Exclusive Stores in September 2026 with a starting price of RM2,099. Built as the successor to the original Lenovo Tab Plus, the new model upgrades audio, visuals, flexibility, and intelligent features with the goal of making the tablet the centrepiece of how people consume content across different parts of their day.

“Entertainment today is not tied to a single place or routine,” said Tony Chen, Vice President of Tablets, Intelligent Devices Group, Lenovo. “People are moving seamlessly between work, travel, and downtime, and they expect their devices to move just as naturally with them.” That philosophy is stitched directly into how the Tab Plus Gen 2 is built and how it is priced.

Sound That Fills the Space

Audio is the headline upgrade. The Tab Plus Gen 2 ships with a JBL 9-unit Pro speaker system tuned with Dolby Atmos, designed to deliver the kind of layered audio that makes movie dialogue clearer in busy scenes and pushes bass deep enough to fill a room. For anyone who has been frustrated by the tinny output of typical tablets, this is exactly the gap Lenovo is targeting.

On top of that, the tablet doubles as a standalone Bluetooth speaker. Lenovo has loaded the Tab Plus Gen 2 with AI-powered features that aim to keep users in the moment rather than fumbling with menus. Lenovo AI Live Transcript delivers real-time translation across more than 40 languages, with two hours of free daily usage before in-app purchases apply. Lenovo Smarter Reader simplifies reading and content navigation, and AI Notes within Lenovo Notepad streamlines note-taking and organisation.

Battery life is another major selling point. The 10,200 mAh cell supports up to 15 hours of YouTube video streaming, which is more than enough for a transcontinental flight plus a full evening of binge-watching. When the battery does run down, 45W fast charging gets it topped back up quickly, though buyers will need a compatible USB Power Delivery charger rated at 45W or higher, sold separately.

The tablet is also compatible with the Lenovo Tab Pen Plus, the Lenovo Wireless Keyboard, and the Lenovo 68W USB-C Wall Charger, all sold separately.

Our Take

The Android tablet market has not had a genuinely exciting audio-first option in a long time. Most tablets in the RM1,500 to RM2,500 range treat speaker quality as an afterthought, which is exactly why Apple has been able to dominate the premium end with the iPad Air and iPad Pro. Lenovo is making a credible run at reclaiming some of that space.

The JBL 9-unit Pro speaker system with Dolby Atmos is not a marketing line. It is the kind of feature that changes how a tablet gets used. Combined with the 360-degree kickstand and the Bluetooth speaker mode, Lenovo is essentially positioning the Tab Plus Gen 2 as three devices in one: a tablet, a portable speaker, and a digital picture frame.

That said, the RM2,099 starting price puts the Tab Plus Gen 2 in a crowded bracket.
