OPPO Find X9 Ultra Launching April 21 — 10x Optical Zoom Changes the Game
TLDR:
- OPPO announces Find X9 Ultra global launch on April 21, 2026
- Features world’s first 10x optical zoom telephoto lens in a smartphone
- Uses Quintuple Prism Reflection Periscope Structure — five light reflections to achieve 10x
- Hasselblad 50MP 10x Ultra-Sensing Optical-Zoom Telephoto with Sensor Shift stabilization
- Pete Lau: “This is not just another flagship; it’s your next camera”

The Camera That Rethinks Zoom
OPPO is about to redefine what a smartphone camera can do. The company announced the Find X9 Ultra globally on April 1, 2026, with a launch event scheduled for April 21. The headline feature is a world first: true 10x optical zoom telephoto lens built into a smartphone.

Most flagship smartphones currently cap their optical zoom at 4x or 5x. The physical constraints of a phone body make longer optical zoom extraordinarily difficult to engineer. OPPO spent years developing the Quintuple Prism Reflection Periscope Structure — bouncing light through five separate reflections to satisfy the physics requirements for 10x optical zoom while keeping the camera module 30% shorter than conventional designs.
Engineering the Impossible
The Hasselblad 50MP 10x Ultra-Sensing Optical-Zoom Telephoto is the centrepiece. It delivers true 10x optical zoom and what OPPO calls industry-first 20x optical-quality zoom. That second figure uses computational photography to extend the effective reach beyond what pure optics deliver.
Pristine Optical Path Architecture supports the lens. The prism is constructed from three precision pieces separated by an industry-first nanometer-scale diaphragm and a specialized air capsule. The goal is ensuring image data hitting the sensor is exceptionally pure — no unwanted light scatter or degradation.
At 10x zoom, even the slightest handshake is magnified. OPPO engineered an all-new Sensor Shift optical stabilization system with an industry-leading stabilization range. The result should be consistently stable, crisp, and clear shots even at maximum zoom without a tripod.
“Your Next Camera”
Pete Lau, SVP and Chief Product Officer at OPPO, put it bluntly: “This is not just another flagship; it’s your next camera.”
That’s a bold claim, but the specifications suggest OPPO is serious about challenging dedicated compact cameras. A 10x optical zoom covering roughly 24mm to 240mm equivalent focal length would cover most of what casual photographers need from a dedicated camera — without carrying a second device.
The Find X9 Ultra’s camera system anchors a comprehensive suite of imaging innovations across both hardware and computational photography. The full details arrive at the April 21 global launch event.
Our Take
Smartphone makers have been at an optical zoom ceiling for years. 5x was considered impressive; anything beyond relied on digital cropping or computational enhancement. OPPO’s Quintuple Prism approach is genuinely new — five reflections to fold light path without making the phone uncomfortably thick.
Whether 10x optical zoom in a phone delivers the same image quality as a dedicated camera remains to be seen. Sensor size, lens glass quality, and image processing all matter. But for travellers, event attendees, or anyone who wants reach without carrying a second device, 10x optical from a phone is a meaningful capability upgrade.
The Find X9 Ultra launches April 21. Malaysia availability and pricing will follow. For OPPO fans who prioritize camera performance above everything else, this one is worth waiting for.
