Although some time has passed since its launch, we’re still very impressed with Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 13 series lineup. After reviewing the most basic model, we’re now diving into the image quality of the flagship, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G.
Xiaomi priced the 8GB RAM/256GB storage model at RM1599, with the 12GB RAM/512GB storage model costing RM1999. This price range is quite competitive, but Xiaomi hasn’t held back on bringing its A-game.
As the series flagship, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G boasts a triple-sensor layout. However, only two sensors are truly practical; the third seems more like a placeholder. The main camera is a new 200MP sensor by Samsung, accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2MP macro camera.
In this article, we’ll explore the 2 main sensor’s performance. We wont be checking out the macro camera performance due to there’s no option to select it, and likely either the data is sliced into the other 2 sensor’s image, or is just a place holder.
Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G Camera
Primary camera: 200MP Behemoth
First, let’s look at the massive sensor, the 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP3. This relatively new sensor is widely used by other flagship models like the Realme 11 Pro+, Honor 90, and the recent Meizu 21 series.
The camera module features a 1/1.4-inch sensor with a wide f/1.65 aperture lens, allowing more light to enter. It’s fix at a 24mm wide angle, featuring PDAF autofocus and impressive hybrid/electronic image stabilization.
Impressive companion: 16mm Ultra-wide-angle
The second camera module is an impressive 8MP Sony IMX355 sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens. This camera is uses by other top brands, such as the OnePlus 12 series, Oppo Reno series, and the OnePlus Nord series. The camera sensor is 1/2.8 inch, with a reasonable f/2.2 aperture. The field of view is lock at 16mm with infinite focus.
Third Wheeler: 2MP Macro Camera
Finally, the third camera, the 2MP Omnivision OV02B10 macro lens, doesn’t offer much practical value. It’s highly impractical for real-life use, even with its macro capabilities. Again, due to there’s no way to select this camera, seems to be there mainly to boost specs on paper.
Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G Camera: Excels Beyond its Price
As the flagship of the Redmi Note 13 series, the Note 13 Pro+ 5G sets a high bar. The impressive 200MP main camera captures sharp images with beautiful colors, offering plenty of room for editing. The 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens also delivers sharp results, seemingly calibrated with expert precision.
The abundance of pixels and dynamic range allows for enjoyable editing, even with JPEG images. While the lack of RAW format is a slight disappointment, JPEGs still offer decent dynamic range.
However, the 2MP macro camera feels like an unnecessary inclusion. Without the option to select it, we couldn’t even capture a sample image.
In Conclusion: A Budget-Friendly Powerhouse
Overall, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G boasts impressive hardware, delivering a remarkable photography experience that surpasses its price point. The combination of a powerful imaging system and a budget-friendly tag makes the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G a top contender if camera capability is a major priority for your next smartphone.
