OnePlus fans can look forward to not just one, but two flagships coming early next year. OnePlus is gearing up to announce the new OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R globally this coming 23rd January. The OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R is OnePlus’ attempt to approach the market with a true flagship and a more value-oriented flagship.
OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R: coming 23rd January 2024
Most of the OnePlus 12’s specs and features have already been announced during its China launch about two weeks ago, but the OnePlus 12R is going to be somewhat new. To start off, the OnePlus 12 will feature the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, along with their Hasselblad camera featuring a 50MP main camera, 48MP ultra-wide shooter and a 64MP 3x telephoto camera with a periscopic lens. They are also getting a new 2K display sourced from BOE. Most importantly however, is the presence of the fan-favorite alert slider, which returned with the OnePlus 11.
New to the OnePlus 12 is the marbly-looking finish that’s dubbed Flowy Emerald. I must say, that’s a really unique look and I think it will go well with ASUS’ Zenbook 14X OLED that features a ceramic-like plasma electrolytic oxidation finish on its lid.
Meanwhile for the OnePlus 12R, it is slated to feature a last-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that is still plenty potent for all but the most avid of benchmark addicts. Featuring an older chip will allow OnePlus to offer a more affordable device to fans of the OnePlus brand not prepared to pay top dollar for the OnePlus 12. To be honest, it does sound a lot like settling, exactly against the ethos of the OnePlus brand. But hey, they’re a business after all.
In any case, we will find out more about the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R soon enough. We aren’t sure if they will be made available in Malaysia at the same time as the rest of the world but do stay tuned if you’re interested to find out more about the next-gen OnePlus flagships!
