Luminor Quaranta Razer mark union between Panerai and Razer to save the oceans

Panerai Luminor Quaranta Razer side

The renowned gaming brand Razer and luxury watchmaker Panerai have come together with a shared commitment to sustainability, in particular ocean preservation. To mark the alliance, the Luminor Quaranta Razer Special Edition was announced, with a limited run of 500 pieces. This special edition bears a rather subtle Razer influence, but what matters more is possibly the materials that went into it.

Luminor Quaranta Razer: 500 pieces, recycled materials, $8,400

The steel used for the watch case is a next-gen recycled steel that Panerai dubbed eSteel. Panerai added a DLC (diamond like carbon coating) that gives it the deep lustrous matte black finish. The strap is also made of recycled plastic bottles, a nod to the ocean conservation efforts of both brands involved. Last but not least, Panerai will be taking a page out of every smartphone maker’s playbook and improving on the packaging as well. The packaging will be made of 72% recycled materials, and weigh 53% less than the previous version.

Now, let’s talk about the design. Instead of the more traditional colors of the standard Luminor Quaranta, the Luminor Quaranta Razer Special Edition borrows a few subtle hints from Razer’s design language. Razer Green hints are imbued in the stitching for the strap and the seconds subdial, while the notorious triple-headed snake is featured on the watchface. The luminous markers also glow green, befitting the Razer theme. Over on the side we find the Razer font over the crown-protection bridge, while the caseback touts the Razer emblem.

The Luminor Quaranta Razer will be priced at $8,400 (~RM39,623), and will be available exclusively via Panerai boutiques and their official website.
