Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport BUKIT BINTANG CITY CENTRE (LaLaport BBCC) has introduced ACG BASE, a bespoke destination dedicated entirely to anime, comics, and games (ACG) culture. This strategic move reinforces LaLaport BBCC’s evolution as a dynamic lifestyle centre with strong Japanese heritage, fundamentally transforming the retail landscape on Level 2 into a vibrant hub for both zealous fans and curious patrons. Billed as Malaysia’s newest and largest space devoted to pop-culture fandom, ACG BASE provides an immersive lifestyle playground where consumers can explore, shop, dine, and connect within a setting inspired by cherished characters and creators. This precinct boasts an impressive roster of over 20 tenants, featuring several of Japan’s most influential brands and fandom platforms.

Anchor Tenants and Exclusive Retail Experiences

The retail experience at ACG BASE is underpinned by several high-profile additions, offering authentic and exclusive merchandise. Key among these is animate, Japan’s preeminent anime retailer. Following the success of its earlier pop-up, animate has inaugurated its permanent store at LaLaport BBCC, spanning over 3,900 square feet. This flagship store offers a comprehensive array of official collectibles, manga, and exclusive items for enthusiasts of anime, manga, and games.

Furthermore, the location of the former animate pop-up store has been ingeniously repurposed as an exclusive ‘Only Shop’. This spin-off offers rotating, limited-edition merchandise dedicated to specific, single anime or manga titles, creating a compelling, continuously refreshed collector experience. Dining options are also integrated into the fandom experience, with a themed café located on the LG1 floor that regularly refreshes its concept and menu to feature new titles and collaborations. The full ACG BASE hub is projected to be fully operational by the conclusion of 2025, with several major tenants having debuted from mid-October onwards.

The K-Pop and Idol Culture Connection

Adding a unique dimension of live entertainment to the ACG culture is the KLP48 Theatre, the official home base in Malaysia for the local idol group. As a sister ensemble to Japan’s globally iconic AKB48, KLP48 is scheduled to host daily live performances. This arrangement affords fans an unparalleled opportunity to cheer, support, and interact with their favorite members in a dedicated setting, transcending the confines of traditional concerts and festivals. This live idol experience is a significant draw, ensuring continuous engagement and community building within the ACG BASE precinct.

Comprehensive Tenant Roster and Promotions

The diverse tenant mix at ACG BASE includes an exclusive selection of stores catering to various facets of urban pop culture. The lineup features distinctive concepts such as Bad Egg Club, Dimension Poptown, Doko Koko zones (incorporating a Café, Goods, Pick Up, and Space), K+ by Kadokawa Gempak Starz (blending Japanese and local manga/comics), KOBO 7, Mori Mory, Nullset Goods, NOT ONLY TOY, ORB Café, Photoism PLAY, Q Pocket, The Pink Room (catering to kawaii culture fans like Sanrio), Vibe Max, and Xumi Good.

To celebrate the grand opening of ACG BASE, LaLaport BBCC is launching a series of promotional rewards valid from November 14 to 30, 2025. Customers who expend RM300 in a single receipt at ACG BASE are eligible to receive a RM20 cash voucher. Alternatively, patrons spending RM100 across two same-day receipts may claim a complimentary box of chocolates or cookies from Beryl’s. Furthermore, shoppers can engage in a Sticker Rally by collecting stamps from participating tenants on a dedicated card, allowing them to redeem an additional RM20 cash voucher upon completion. These rewards incentivize exploration and patronage across the newly established pop-culture precinct.

The launch of ACG BASE complements LaLaport BBCC’s existing offerings, which include Mitsui Outlet Park BBCC (Malaysia’s first city outlet) and the recent debut of exclusive Japanese brands and family entertainment options like Molly Fantasy, firmly establishing the mall as a premier, multi-faceted urban destination.
